3.2.3 Managing Form Fields

Top  Previous  Next

To add a new field to a group, choose the appropriate item from the list of fields available in the system on the input form modification page. You can find that list at the bottom of each group next to the 'Add Field' tag. The first item in the list is a [Splitter], which is not actually a database field, but a line used for separating fields in the form. After choosing the field, you need to set its position in the group where it will appear.

There are 3 options available:

At the end of the group - this will place the field at the end of a group.
At the beginning of the group - this will place the field at the beginning of a group.
After - this will place the field after the form item (which could be splitter or another field) chosen form a list of group components.

To finalize adding the field to the group, click on the "Add" button on the right. After that, the newly created field will appear at the location specified. You can then move that field using the 'up' and 'down' arrows.

To edit form field properties, click the "Edit" icon next to the appropriate name of a field. You can set the following properties on the form field modification page :

Name Override - by default, the form field name is inherited from the database field name. The input text will override the default name.
Default Value - this will set the default value of the form field.
Field Type - there are 3 available field types: 'Regular', 'Mandatory' and 'Hidden'.
Field View Type - the list of field view types depends on the database field type chosen for the form field (for more information see the 'Database Field Management" chapter)
Hint - text shown when a user points to the field with the cursor.

There are also 2 additional options available on this page:

Move Within Group - this will move the field to another place within its own group. There are 3 choices for moving the field: "At the end of the group" - this will place the field at the end of the group, "At the beginning of the group" - this will place the field at the beginning of the group, "After" - this will place the field after the form item (which could be a splitter or another field) chosen from the list of group components.
Move to Group - this will move the field to another group.

To delete the field from a group, click the 'Delete' icon next to the field name on the input form modification page.
